ACB’s youth organization, the Bulgarian Euro-Atlantic Youth Club (BEAYC), supported by NATO, organized an international NATO Summer School in the period 30th May – 5th June 2016, in Smolyan, Bulgaria, on “NATO Challenges and Concerns on the Eve of 2016 Summit”.
The 2016 edition focused on NATO’s priority actions directed towards the Alliance’s adaptation to the new security environment. Key topics were: Current Challenges in the Black Sea Region; Preparing for Threats in Emergent Spaces, Including Cyber Space and Maritime Security; Smart Defence and Planning for the Future in Times of Austerity; NATO’s Role as a Global Security Actor; NATO-Russia Relations; Women’s role in Peace and Security; The War Against Terrorism; and NATO Transparency and Reforms. The seminar aimed to create a forum where young people with different nationalities and backgrounds would have the opportunity to meet with representatives of the NGO and government sector, as well as experts, and to discuss and exchange ideas about NATO’s current and future role in the ongoing international threats and challenges.
Besides attending a number of intriguing lectures, participants were welcomed to take part in fun social activities.
