On 8 August 2016, a global life-saving mobile app named iSOSu was launched as a pilot project in India. The smart iSOSu mobile app is a personal emergency app, developed jointly by a Bulgarian-Indian start-up team from the Atlantic Digital Network (ADN) – the NGO cluster of The Atlantic Club of Bulgaria, and Asadel Tech.
The iSOSu App has the potential to provide timely support to unlimited number of victims in a universality of emergency or criminality-related situations. It can be activated by shaking or from a locked screen. Ten different touch buttons provide options to choose the type of emergency you are in, thereby launching an SOS Signal spontaneously. When activated, the signal is received by other users, each one of whom can be your potential savior, and your predefined contacts (friends and relatives) and concerned authorities (police, medical emergency, fire services, etc.) are auto-informed of your situation.
As soon as iSOSu™ is launched, the app activates the GPS, rear camera and voice recorder of your mobile phone, in order for automatic pictures and videos to be taken of the surroundings. Your geo-location, the pictures, videos and other critical information are then transmitted by the app to intended recipients.
The app may be used by victim or witnesses, as well as to be used post factum in investigating crimes and emergencies. The versatility of the app enables you to setup your preferences the way you want. Versions of the app could be trimmed to address only emergencies or crime-related situations of a specific nature, like traffic accidents, fires, kidnappings and airplane hijackings, terrorist attacks or more trivial everyday troubles each of us is facing daily.
The Bulgarian start-up group, which initiated the project in 2013, consists of:
