From 20 – 21 April 2011, at the Central Military Club, in Sofia, The Atlantic Club of Bulgaria, with the cooperation of the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy of Berlin, organized an international conference, entitled “Europe as a Global Actor. The Roles and Responsibilities of Europe and the US in the New World Order: Exploring the Political, Economic, and Cultural Dimensions”. The conference was part of a series of events to commemorate the 20th anniversary of The Atlantic Club of Bulgaria and had as an objective to analyze Europe’s role on the global stage. The event was attended by many distinguished guests from the political, economic and social circles, as well as media, who participated in a series of speeches, debates and discussions.
The conference comprised panels on the following topics: “Europe and the U.S. as Global Peacemakers”; “European and US Activity to Promote Democracy and Human Rights Abroad”; “Protest, Revolution and Democracy in North Africa: Examining the Relationship”; “The Digital Revolution and New Form of Active Citizenship”; and “The Foreign Policy Innovations of the Lisbon Treaty”.
The event was concluded with a Gala Lunch for the celebration of the 20th Anniversary of The Atlantic Club of Bulgaria, which was attended by senior officials from the government and the private sector.
