The Bulgarian Euro Atlantic Youth Club, supported by NATO, organized a one-week international seminar in the period June 4th – June 10th 2017 in Smolyan, Bulgaria, on current “NATO challenges and concerns on the eve of 2017 Summit”.
This year’s seminar focused on addressing NATO’s priority actions necessary for Alliance’s adaptation to the new security environment. More specifically, the key topics included: current security challenges in the Black Sea region, an ongoing migration crisis, Bulgaria’s membership and priorities in NATO, European Security after the Brexit, Terrorism and its new face, NATO-Russia relations after Ukraine, Post-Soviet frozen conflicts, NATO Cyber Defence policy and the role of social media, gender issues within the context of NATO and the Alliance after 2018. Subsequently, we shed the light on the above mentioned topics through numerous discussions, panel debates and group activities.
In particular, the seminar went through a direct contact between young people, representatives of NGOs, media, representatives of governments, panel discussions, workshops and debates, presented by experts, professors and competitive speakers. Besides attending a number of intriguing lectures, participants took part in fun social activities.
