On 16 September 2012, The Atlantic Club of Bulgaria, in cooperation with the International Institute for Security and Cooperation and with the support of the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy, organized a conference, entitled “11 Years after September 11th: Lessons for 11 Years Ahead”. The conference took place at the Center for Intellectual Property, University of National and World Economy, Sofia.
The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Solomon Passy. Among the topics that were discussed were the consequences of the 9/11 terrorist attack, the expansion of terrorism as a global threat, the terrorist act in Bourgas and its impact on the Republic of Bulgaria, the European Union and Israel’s security. Security and defense experts emphasized that global terrorism could be confronted only by cooperation among democratic countries. Regarding the security measures at the Sarafovo airport, the experts noted that there had not been a security breach at the airport itself, but the security outside the airport must be improved.
