3 – 9 June 2019, Mountain Lake Hotel, Smolyan
ACB’s youth organization, the Bulgarian Euro-Atlantic Youth Club (BEAYC), organized for a sixth consecutive year a week-long international NATO Summer School. The topic of the seminar was “NATO at 70 and the Road Ahead”. The event took place on 3 – 9 June 2019 in Smolyan, Bulgaria, and was supported by NATO, the Representation of the European Commission in Sofia and the Office of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung in Bulgaria.
The seminar focused on numerous and diverse topics, such as the NATO@70 campaign, the current international crisis, the cooperation between NATO and the EU, cyber security and NATO challenges and concerns in 2019. This wide variety of crucial topics created a forum where young people with different nationalities and backgrounds had the opportunity to meet with representatives of NGOs, media and government officials, to participate in panel discussions, workshops and debates, lead by experts, professors and competitive speakers, as well as to discuss and exchange ideas about NATO’s current and future role in the ongoing international threats and challenges.
The seminar included a one-day discussion among the participants on the topic “What is NATO for Me”. This discussion enabled each participant to make a short presentation on what NATO was for their country and how they saw the future of the Alliance from their country’s prospective and from an international point of view.
The participants also had the opportunity to take part in workshops with students from local high schools and to share with them their experience and knowledge.
During this one-week seminar, the participants further created videos sharing what NATO meant to them. These videos were then disseminated in their countries and the NATO network, in order to reach more people.
