The results from the Kozloduy NPP stress tests show that the power plant up to the toughest safety requirements. In five months the Kozloduy NPP will purchase and build two separate generators that will support the power blocks in case of an emergency. This will guarantee that if there is an electricity failure the reactors will stay under control.
Under the initiative of the Atlantic Club and representatives of the nuclear industry in Bulgaria, the Kozloduy NPP leadership presented the preliminary results from the stress tests on the nuclear power plant before representatives of 15 diplomatic missions.
According to the CEO of the Kozloduy NPP Mr. Alexander Nikolov the tests show that our nuclear power plant is rightly calculated to endure magnitude 7.0 quake. This is why there are no intentions to invest in additional measures, which will guarantee greater safety for earthquakes in the region around the power plant.
The President of the Atlantic Club Dr. Solomon Passy expressed his thoughts that some of those European countries that stopped their nuclear programs after the devastating tsunami in Japan have no alternative for cheaper energy source and will soon return to their old projects.
During the forum the nuclear experts reminded that they are not against the policy of the so called “green” eco associations to protect the environment but they just expect from them to give adequate proposals for alternative energy sources.
In support of this grim prediction for electricity price increase in Bulgaria in the next couple of years, the Minister of the Economy Mr. Traicho Traikov admit that the price of the natural gas will rise rapidly till the end of the year. Because of the higher prices of “Gazprom Bulgargas” he will ask for a double-digit increase in the gas prices till the end of the year.
